ICE CREAM TEMPO Adapting to climate change selling Ice Cream on Wheels

In Gangapur, Rajasthan, the scarcity of water and collapsing agricultural yields have led to the rise of a new economy centered on ice-cream trucks. Each winter, from November to February, this small town becomes a hive of activity as thousands of mini-trucks are converted into mobile vending units. These brightly decorated vehicles, equipped with stainless steel containers and stocked with a secret recipe hand made ice creams, head to cities across India, where their operators sell ice cream for the rest of the year. For the former farmers of Gangapur, this seasonal migration offers a lifeline. Many earn significantly more from the ice-cream business than they ever could from farming, with some generating enough income to sustain their families for an entire year. The success of this trade has rippled through Gangapur itself, spawning a thriving local industry. Workshops, repair shops, and suppliers have multiplied, creating jobs for those who remain behind. This new economy not only provides financial stability but also symbolizes resilience and adaptation in the face of climate challenges, transforming Gangapur into a hub of opportunity in a region long defined by drought and deprivation
